Preparations
Preparing for a photography journey
This Saturday I leave so I am using the last days to prepare for my journey and make sure I have all the equipment I need to capture everything I come across. I thought about taking my bulky SLR camera but it didn’t feel right, I want to be able to have my camera with me as an easily accessible accessory rather than a pain to carry around, So I'm taking my Lumix GX85 with two different lenses, one smaller 20mm lens so I can easily snap images of the busier places I’m visiting and a 45-150mm lens to be able to capture things in nature that are further away.
This past week I have been revisiting my other blogposts and reflecting on what I have learned and how I am going to take this with me on this journey.
I’m glad I talked to others about ma, sense of place, wabi-sabi and mono no aware before leaving, their answers helped me see how deeply personal these ideas are. Thinking about the story I wanted to tell has also given me a way of looking at daily life that will help me with my photography the next few weeks. By slowing down, being present, looking closer and recognising the passing moments of life, I hope to create images that help others find these beautiful moments in day to day life.
I also have guiding lines now for each chapter I want to capture, I want list every detail here because I’m not going to use this as a checklist but more of a way to stay grounded and focused on the things that are important to tell the story I’m trying to tell. In essence I want to create opening images filled with stillness and time to breathe, I especially look forward to getting up early in the mornings to find spaces that usually are crawling with people to be empty. I also look forward to finding places that have been worn down or have aged over time because of daily usage and activities. I want to focus on the details and highlight the imperfections that most people overlook. And most above all I look forward to finding the fleeting moments that remind us to take a moment to appreciate the moment we are in right now. I hope there will be some autumnal colours around but unfortunately they seem to be late this year because of the rising temperatures.. I will be travelling to different places including mountains so hopefully this will give me a better chance at capturing this season :)
